Differin; beter medicijn tegen acne

…aldus de Amerikaanse cosmeticacriticaster Paula Begoun vandaag in haar nieuwsbrief. Er is nu een sterkere versie van deze medicatie op de markt, maar, de bijwerkingen kunnen ook sterker zijn. De stofnaam van het medicijn is Adapalene. Je leest het hieronder:

New, Higher-Strength Differin
Those struggling with prescription treatment options to manage acne may have tried Differin (Adapalene) at some point. This synthetic retinoid, which some find more tolerable than tretinoin (Retin-A), was previously available at only a single concentration of 0.1%. The FDA approved a stronger, 0.3%, version of this drug and it has been available for prescribing since July (Source: www.happi.com). The new, higher-strength Differin is indicated for use by those battling moderate to severe acne. It is conceivable that the incidence and potential severity of side effects may increase with this stronger dose-but preapproval research has shown it to be more effective than the 0.1% concentration for keeping acne-prone skin clear, while measuring about the same level of side effects (Sources: Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, February 2006, pages 242-250; and Cutis, August 2005, pages 145-151).
